BREAST REDUCTION

Why Would a Woman Consider a Breast Reduction?

Very large breasts can be a cosmetic concern for many women. They may make a woman appear heavier or out of shape. Very large breasts can limit the types of clothing that a woman feels comfortable wearing. In addition they are heavy and can hinder a woman’s ability to exercise and can cause daily discomfort. Large breasts can cause significant back and neck pain. Women with very large breasts can develop persistent rashes under their breasts. In addition they mind in the evening that they are having significant grooves in the skin around their shoulders or on their back from the weight on their bra straps. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, there is help available. Dr. Obaid can meet with you in his office and discuss with you the options available.

How Small Will My Breasts Be After the Surgery?

Women often wonder what size breasts they will have after breast reduction. Dr. Obaid will meet with you and discuss your symptoms and goals with you. Many women desire breasts that are more proportional to their body frame, while others may have had such severe symptoms and limitations from their breasts that they desire them to be as small as possible. Dr. Obaid will listen to your goals. Together, Dr. Obaid and you will design a custom surgery that will provide you with the breasts you have always dreamed of.

What About the Scars?

The most common question that people ask is about the scars that accompany a reduction. The scars that result from the procedure are hidden with clothing, and most are hidden in non-visible portions of the breast. While there is a small amount of visible scarring when undressed, this is a small trade off for a dramatic change in size and shape of the breasts.

Of all the procedures performed by plastic surgeons, including liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tucks, etc., breast reduction is associated with the highest patient satisfaction of all procedures. Women tend to not only look much better after the operation, but also feel much better. As a result, few if any are bothered by the scars. If you have a friend or family member who has had a breast reduction, ask them how they feel about the scars. Most will tell you that they barely notice them and are truly happy that they had the operation performed.
