What Can a Tummy Tuck Do For Me?
The goal of a tummy tuck is to give you a slimmer, sexier midsection. Dr. Obaid’s tummy tuck does this by working on three levels. The first is it removes extra skin that may develop with age, pregnancy or weight changes. The second is that it removes some of the fat around your waistline. Finally, Dr. Obaid also tightens the muscles of the midsection to give you a firmer trimmer waist. At your one on one consultation in his Southlake office, Dr. Obaid will explain to you all the ways that an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) can give you the figure you have always dreamed of.
Can’t I Just Diet and Exercise?
A healthy diet and a regular exercise program are crucial for you to look and feel your best. There is a limitation however to what diet and exercise can accomplish. After pregnancy or significant weight loss, there is NO AMOUNT OF DIET OR EXERCISE that will get rid of the extra skin that has developed around your waist. In addition, during pregnancy, some women have the muscle of their midsection stretched so much that they cannot recover and are left permanently week. This causes a small “pouch” like effect in the lower abdomen. A tummy tuck will correct these problems by removing the extra skin that will not go away. It will also tighten the muscle of abdomen, firming up your midsection.
Do I Need a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction?
Liposuction is great at removing the extra fat we have built up, and at changing a woman’s silhouette or contour. Liposuction does not however tighten the skin that may have become lax with age or pregnancy or weight loss. Liposuction also does not tighten the underlying muscles to help firm up the stomach. When you meet one on one with Dr. Obaid for a tummy tuck or liposuction consult in his Southlake office, he will examine your tummy and see if the problem is just a little extra fat or whether you could benefit from tightening the skin and muscles as well. If you need all three, than a tummy tuck, or abdmoinoplasty, is the way to go. If not, than liposuction alone will help.
I am Having Surgery with my OB/GYN. Can I Have a Tummy Tuck at the Same Time?
Dr. Obaid can perform your tummy tuck at the same time as you are having many other surgeries. There are some surgeries however where adding a tummy tuck may increase the risk of the surgery. When you meet with Dr. Obaid in his Southlake office, he will discuss what other surgery you would like to combine the tummy tuck with. If it can be done safely and easily, he will do it. If not, your tummy tuck will need to be scheduled separately.
What is an “Around the World Tummy Tuck”
An “around the world tummy tuck” goes by many different names such as “extended abdominoplasty”, “360 degree tummy tuck”, and a “belt lipectomy”. An extended tummy tuck is designed to not only tighten the skin around the midsection, but also to tighten the skin on the sides of the abdomen and the skin all the way around your body to the back. Dr. Obaid most frequently performs this type of tummy tuck on patients who have lost large amounts of weight in the past. This weight loss causes the development of extra skin not just in the midsection but also in the hips and above the buttocks in the back.
I Have Had Weight Loss Surgery. Am I a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
If you have had weight loss surgery, and are now at a stable weight, you are an excellent candidate for a tummy tuck. Because patients who have had weight loss surgery often have extra skin not only in their midsection but also in their hips, flanks and lower back, many often opt to have an extended or “around the world” tummy tuck. Dr. Obaid is a plastic surgeon who specializes in body contouring after massive weight loss. When he meets with you in his Southlake office, he will examine you and help you to determine if you are a better candidate for a standard or extended tummy tuck.
