After a breast augmentation, many women may believe their new implants are permanent. But, it is important for patients to remember that an implant is a medical device with the potential to fail. This article explains the signals that indicate potential problems in different types of implants. Possible complications include rupture, leakage, and even shifting of the implant. Some maintenance is required during the life cycle of a healthy implant. The FDA said that one in five women will need to have their implants removed within 10 years.
