Mommy makeovers have seen a big rise in popularity, and with good reason. The everyday woman can now have an additional sense of empowerment by being able to secure their pre-baby figure with the help of various cosmetic procedures, referred to as a “mommy makeover.”
Whether performed all together or one at a time over several years, a “mommy makeover” typically involves multiple surgical procedures combined together. Below I’ve summarized some of the surgeries included in a mommy makeover.
Nursing, pregnancy associated weight gain, and aging all contribute to sagging of the breasts, which cannot be reversed through diet and exercise alone. A breast lift, which is very common in mommy makeovers, can restore the breasts to their original positioning and orientation, and also improve the appearance of the surface of the skin.
Implants are often combined with lifts or used by themselves to enhance the size and give more shape and fullness to your post-pregnancy breasts. Shape in particular is an area many mothers want to improve, even more than size, and this is best achieved by a combination of a lift and a breast augmentation procedure.
Otherwise known as a tummy tuck, abdominoplasty is one of the only ways to remove large amounts of excess skin and fat from the stomach region. Many patients come to me with concerns about being self-conscious about the appearance of their skin after losing their baby weight, since the stretching and sagging cannot be fully restored without surgery. My response is to reassure them that a tummy tuck the most effective way to restore their figure and their self esteem.
This approach for removing fat is great at eliminating stubborn fat deposits, and is especially helpful for younger patients that are otherwise happy with their shape, size, and skin appearance. Liposuction can be used to shape and enhance the contours as well, and has many potential applications for post-pregnancy procedures.
Many of my patients opt for an additional level of enhancement by combining their liposuction with a fat transfer procedure. In this surgery, unwanted fat in one location is removed and re-injected into another spot to fill out curves and maximize the shapeliness of your post-pregnancy body.
Your plastic surgeon is well-equipped to counsel you on which procedures are best to get you where you want to be. However, mommy makeovers are not just for moms… any woman that would like to enhance their physique should consider coming in for a consultation.
