Historic Downtown Plano is the cultural heart and soul of the city, a district that’s filled with life. Fabulous artisan stores, restaurants, and galleries make it a great place to shop or just spend time enjoying the atmosphere. There are lots of different ways to take in the area, but the Plano Art & Wine Walk might just be the perfect way. New in 2016, it’s proven to be one of the best downtown Plano events. Held once a month, it showcases some of Plano’s amazing artists, artisans, and musicians.
A Fun Night Out and About in Downtown Plano
Our lives are increasingly busy, and it’s hard sometimes to fit in everything we want to do. That’s one reason why the Plano Art & Wine Walk is such a fantastic event—it’s wine-tasting, shopping, and an art tour all rolled into one evening of fun. And walking around Downtown Plano will give you some exercise while you’re soaking up all the culture! No need to worry about calories consumed during this event, as you’ll be using up plenty of them as you walk around the district. With up to 20 locations to visit on your tour, comfortable walking shoes are definitely a good idea.
The Plano Art & Wine Walk is also a great group event, if you’re a member of a local club or just want a good night out with friends or family. There’s lots of fun and laughter to be had, and there’s a wonderful feeling of community and camaraderie at these kinds of downtown Plano events. Everyone is enjoying themselves, the air feels festive, the music sets your toes tapping, and the wine puts a song in your heart!
Themes to Keep the Evenings Fresh
Each month, the event is based around a different theme—to be decided for the remaining events in October and November. A new theme each month means that there’s always something fresh to see and do, so even if you’ve been to one Art & Wine walk, it’s definitely worth going again. Different retailers participate each month as well, giving you new opportunities to discover fantastic local products and take advantage of great discounts.
September’s theme was World Traveler, to coincide with Plano International Festival. The evening’s entertainment included local performers who represented a wide range of global cultures. Special performers were the Irish musical trio Reel Treble, who have become a popular fixture in and around the Dallas/Fort-Worth area. In June the theme was Reds, Whites, and Blues and featured a number of local bands singing the blues on stage at McCall Plaza.
Discover Local Artisans, Enjoy Great Wine, and Win Prizes
So how exactly does the Plano Art & Wine Walk operate? The concept is simple but effective.
A number of downtown stores—including Amazeballz Cake Balls, Magaly Designs, Southern Vintage Glam, Pipe & Palette, Rail Station Studios and Gallery, and La Foofaraw—participate in the event by providing product samples and entertainment for tour-goers. You can visit as many or as few of the participants as you like, depending on what you most enjoy. There’s a benefit to visiting them all, however.
As part of your event packet, you’ll receive a passport, on which you can track all of the different locations you visit. Fill in your passport with at least six stamps from any combination of the participating locations, and you’ll be eligible for gift certificate prizes from local retailers and restaurants. Head to McCall Plaza at 9 PM to drop off your passport, then stick around until 9:15 for the prize drawings! You must be there to win if your passport is drawn.
The Plano Art & Wine Walk is like a mini tasting-tour centered around the Downtown Plano Arts District, a historic area that’s vibrant and full of life. With wine, food, entertainment, and more, this “sip and shop” event is a fabulous way to get involved in the community and support local businesses. You’ll have the opportunity to sample more than a dozen wines—numerous one-ounce samples are included in the ticket price—see local artists at work and purchase their work, enjoy street music, and check out local artisans producing everything from pottery to paintings, jewelry, and other hand-crafted items. As an Art & Wine Walk attendee, you’re also eligible for special shopping and restaurant deals, so this is a great chance to see what these local artisans have to offer!
