The Brazilian Butt Lift has taken America by storm with multiple celebrities coming forward to talk about the “BBL.” This procedure offers several benefits, but it aims to provide you with shapelier buttocks that are proportionate to your figure. The buttocks are one area of the body that’s nearly impossible to tone through diet and exercise. Some individuals have a flatter behind than others, which can be determined by genetics. The Brazilian Butt Lift adds volume and re-shapes the buttocks to give you a round, lifted contour that compliments your body.
What makes the BBL stand out from other procedures is that it doesn’t involve a buttock implant or foreign object in the buttocks to achieve these goals. The BBL uses fat harvested from another area of your body using liposuction. That added perk of lipo means that the Brazilian Butt Lift not only contours your buttocks but eliminates unwanted fat in stubborn areas.
Liposuction can remove fat cells from nearly any area of the body, such as the abdomen, “love handles,” thighs, arms, neck, and calves. When it comes to lipo and the BBL, the fat is typically harvested from the abdomen or love handles. Candidates for the BBL will need to have enough fat in other body areas to collect for the procedure, or buttock implants may be necessary to reach your desired results.
The Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure
The BBL starts with removing fat from an isolated area with liposuction. The fat cells are then put through a centrifuge for purification and placed methodically into the buttocks. The injected fat is applied to the buttocks using tiny incisions that result in minimal (if any) scarring. It’s important to note that not all transferred fat will “take.” Your body will naturally absorb some of the cells, and that amount varies per patient. An additional BBL procedure may be required for maximum results.
Brazilian Butt Lift results are permanent, and the length of the procedure depends on the amount of fat harvested, but generally requires several hours. Most patients can return home on the day of their BBL. If you have a large amount of fat removed for your BBL or combine the procedure with another plastic surgery, you would likely need to stay overnight at our surgical center.
During recovery, you’ll need to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for several weeks. That includes no driving. Some patients roll towels and arrange them in a “U” shape or circle to make sure the pressure of sitting stays on the thighs. Minimal exercise and movement, such as walking, encourage the healing process, but you should avoid strenuous exercise and those that involve the buttocks such as lunges.
Your initial BBL results may be more substantial than you were hoping, but this resides over time as the swelling dissipates, and your body absorbs some of the transferred fat.
