What is the Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure?

If you’ve ever felt that your backside didn’t have the volume or shape that you desired and have considered having a Brazilian butt lift you’re not alone. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), over 18,000 people underwent butt augmentation with fat grafting in 2016, a 26% increase from the year before.

The rise in the procedure has often been linked to celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj and social media sites like Instagram, where models often post pictures showing off their derrière. No matter what celebrities may have helped this trend, if you’re considering having a Brazilian butt lift, you may be curious about the procedure itself.

At North Texas Plastic Surgery, we take thorough, comprehensive steps to make sure we produce the desired results you seek. Our procedure includes:

  • Comprehensive consultation: At your consultation, you’ll meet with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons to discuss your aesthetic goals, go over your current health condition and medical history, and have a physical exam. You’ll also get to use our Crisalix 3D simulation virtual reality system to see firsthand how the changes you desire will look after the procedure.
  • Surgery: On the day of your procedure, you’ll have a pre-surgery consultation to go over any last-minute concerns or questions. The surgery itself consists of using a modified version of liposuction to remove fat via tiny incisions in areas of the body and transferring it to the buttocks. The procedure generally takes several hours to complete.
  • Recovery: Depending on the amount of fat removed from liposuction you may be able to go home after the procedure, or an overnight stay at our office-based surgical facility may be required. It’s recommended to rest for a few days after your procedure, as you may feel a moderate amount of pain for up to a week, which can be helped with over-the-counter pain medicine.
  • Aftercare: For up to the first three weeks you’ll need to avoid sitting or lying down to allow the transferred fat to develop in the new area. Regular, gentle exercise such as walking is recommended to prevent blood clots. High-impact exercise should be avoided during this time. You may also need to wear compression garments in the areas of your liposuction during the healing process.

During your recovery period, your doctor will go over proper care and let you know when more strenuous activities are permitted.
