Breast Revision Surgery in Dallas

Breast Revision Surgery in Dallas

Breast enhancement – particularly breast augmentation – with saline or silicone implants is maybe the most popular and most common plastic surgery procedure in the country. However, breast implants do not last forever. The FDA recommends that silicone or saline breast implants should be replaced every 10 years or so.

Breast implants can be replaced, upgraded, or removed in a procedure known as a breast revision. This could be for medical reasons or because you are unsatisfied with the current shape and size of your breasts. If you are considering a breast revision surgery in Dallas, the team at North Texas Plastic Surgery can help. Our locations in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, and Southlake are staffed by some of the top surgeons in Texas who are skilled in the delicate art of breast surgery in all of its forms.

What Are the Most Common Reasons for Breast Implant Revision Surgery

  • Changes in the size or shape of the breasts following pregnancy or weight changes – During pregnancy, the skin of the breasts can get stretched out causing them to sag when the volume is lost after the baby. The same occurs if you have significant weight loss. Fortunately, a breast implant revision surgery with or without a lift can often restore that beautiful youthful perky appearance.

  • Desire for Size Change – Often the size that was right at the time of a patient’s original augmentation is not the right size later in life. For this reason, either upgrading or downgrading the size of the breast implant can really help.
  • Malposition of the implants – Sometimes, because of gravity or due to poor creation of the original breast implant pocket, the implants can sit lower or further out to the side than is desirable. A breast implant exchange with or without a tightening of the breast implant pocket can often fix this!
  • Capsular contracture – Capsular contracture occurs when there is a buildup of abnormal scar tissue around an implant. This can cause a breast implant to feel hard, to ride high, and to be uncomfortable. Removal of this scar tissue and replacement with a new implant can often fix capsular contracture.
  • Rupture of the implants – The FDA has emphasized that breast implants are not meant to be lifetime devices. Over time, small repetitive trauma can lead to a rupture of the breast implant. We can help screen for this using ultrasound in either our Southlake, Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth or Frisco offices. If ruptured, it is recommended that the implants are changed out. For patients whose implants are still under warranty, we will work closely with the manufacturers to make sure that you can receive your full financial benefit from the warranty.
  • Feel of the Implant – There are two major types of breast implants on the market in the United States: silicone and saline. In most patients, the silicone implants will feel more natural. If you do not like the feel of your saline implants, it is worth discussing with your plastic surgeon whether the feel of silicone implants will benefit you.

Can I Combine a Breast Lift with My Breast Implant Exchange?

When trying to sculpt the perfect breast, it is important that the location of the skin of the breast, the actual breast tissue itself, and the nipple all lie in the perfect location to match your new implants. For patients, who may find that one of these three things are not in the ideal location, then performing a breast lift at the same time as your breast implant exchange can really help.

What Can Be Done to Prevent My Breast Implants From Sagging After Surgery?

For many of our breast implant exchange patients in Dallas, we offer the adding our galaflex internal bra to help support the implants. Galaflex is a synthetic product acting like a bra that dissolves over many months, but as it dissolves, galaflex stimulates the body to form a thick layer of dermis that supports your breast implant permanently!

What Will I Look Like After My Breast Implant Revision Surgery?

To make sure that our patients are picking the perfect breast implant size for their breast implant exchange surgery, we use the Crisalix 3-dimensional imaging software which can provide our patients with a very realistic and accurate look into the future of what they will look like if they choose a specific breast implant size. The key is to take the guesswork out of the surgery!

What to Expect in a Breast Revision Surgery in Southlake

Your transformation begins with an initial consult, during which our expert medical team will take your full medical history, understand your needs, and create a tailored surgical plan and 3-dimensional image of what you will look like. We will also advise you to stop taking any blood thinners, and stop using recreational drugs, vaping, smoking cigarettes or any other nicotine products for at least a month before and six weeks after your operation.

The procedure itself will take place under general anesthesia to keep you comfortable. Our plastic surgeon will re-open the incisions used for your previous breast enhancement surgery, at which point the breast implants may be replaced or removed according to your needs. Overall, the procedure will take about three hours. To ensure that your arms, chest, and upper body get proper rest following the procedure, we strongly advise that you have a trusted person drive you home.

The recovery from breast implant revision surgery is quite fast. One can expect to return to a non-physical job from 2-5 days post-surgery.
