At Nort Texas Plastic Surgery, we offer JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® in our Dallas, Plano, and Southlake offices–is a special kind of JUVÉDERM treatment that’s designed especially for mid-face volume loss over the cheek area. It restores volume in the cheeks to lift and reshape this part of the face.
As we age, the concentration of hyaluronic acid in our skin decreases. This reduces the volume of the dermis, a thick layer of skin that all of us have. Over time, the dermis doesn’t provide as much support as it once did. This causes the epidermis, which lies on top of the dermis, to wrinkle.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is injected deep at the periosteum level (on top of bone and below facial muscle) to provide volume and support to the dermis and epidermis.
In the cheek area, the loss of hyaluronic acid makes your cheeks look hollow and can contribute to the development of deep folds at the corners of your nose and mouth. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is a treatment that replenishes the skin’s natural supply of hyaluronic acid and increases volume. Since hyaluronic acid is already present in the skin naturally, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is a safe treatment with few side effects.
Loss of dermal volume is often very noticeable in the cheek area for two reasons:
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is specially formulated to enhance this part of the face by restoring the volume that’s lost with age. It’s injected deep into the cheek area in up to three places, for extra volume that lifts and contours the cheek area to give it a fuller, more youthful look.
The natural volume loss that occurs in the cheeks also develops in your hands. Veiny hands can make you appear much, much older than you are and this may be more visible for some than others, depending on your profession. The injectable of the JUVÉDERM family can also be used for hand rejuvenation to address hands that have lost volume and now look veiny.
Most dermal fillers last from nine months to a year. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA’s special formulation gives it increased longevity. With optimal treatment, the results of a JUVÉDERM VOLUMA treatment can last from 18 months up to two years!
At your JUVÉDERM VOLUMA consultation, Dr. Obaid will discuss the treatment, the results you can expect, and answer any questions or concerns you have.
In the next part of the consultation, you’ll have the JUVÉDERM VOLUMA treatment. This is a series of small injections into the areas that are being treated. It will take between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. The needle that is used for the injections is very fine, but since the injections are placed deep in the cheek area, you will experience some mild discomfort. The JUVÉDERM VOLUMA formula also contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic. This helps reduce pain in the area during the treatment and during your recovery.
The amount of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA you need depends on your facial structure and the volume loss you’ve experienced in your cheeks. The more volume loss, the more JUVÉDERM VOLUMA you’ll need. For this reason, older people typically need more of the product than younger people.
A typical JUVÉDERM VOLUMA treatment for someone in their 30s or 40s might use one-half to one syringe per cheek, while people in their 50s or 60s might need two or three syringes per cheek.
The results of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA are instant! You’ll see a change in your appearance right away, but it may take up to two weeks to see the final results. This is because injections of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA can cause swelling at the injection sites, so this can obscure the effect the product has had on your appearance.
As well as swelling, side effects of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA can include redness, bruising, and itching at the injection sites. In some cases, the injection sites may have a lumpy sensation and be firm to the touch. The side effects typically last for two to four weeks.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is so non-invasive and quick that you can return to work right after your treatment is done. There are no aftereffects that will reduce your ability to work or do any normal activities. In fact, the only restrictions are that exercise should be limited to walking for the first 24 hours and that sun exposure should be limited for the same period of time.
If you have an important social occasion or other event coming up, it’s a good idea to schedule your JUVÉDERM VOLUMA treatment at least two weeks in advance, or up to four weeks if it’s your first treatment. This ensures that any swelling reaction you have will subside before you attend.
