Why would the body ever respond aggressively to an implant? One cause of capsular contracture is a patient’s ability to scar; everyone develops scars differently. Another reason is blood trapped around the implant after bleeding occurs during the procedure. A third cause of capsular contracture is implant rupture. If trauma occurs to the implant, the shell can rupture, causing the body to respond by developing thick, firm scar tissue. Finally, capsular contracture can be caused by micro-infection. Very small infections sometimes develop around the implant. Despite the patient not experiencing any other symptoms, the body can have an inflammatory response, leading to capsular contracture.
