During a study conducted on 48 women with their first-ever injections, it was found that BOTOX increased the recoil of the elasticity of their faces, which caused changes in their composition and helped bring back youthful appearances.
Researchers discovered that the effect was similar to skin tightening radiofrequency. That procedure uses radio waves that heat the skin tissue and stimulate the production of collagen.
Researchers didn’t find evidence that the tightening of the face was a result of inflammation or swelling caused by the BOTOX shots. The effects of the injections typically last three to four months.
While research can’t prove why BOTOX has the effect it does, some believe that cells producing elastin and collagen have receptors that respond to it.
