Call today to schedule a free body contouring consultation at our office in Dallas,  Southlake, or Plano.

What Is a BBL?

BBL stands for Brazilian Butt Lift.  It is a surgical procedure that originated in Brazil. A BBL involves removing unwanted fat from one area of the body and then transferring it into either the buttocks, the hips, or both to help create an hourglass waist and beautiful buttocks.

Why Choose North Texas Plastic Surgery for Your Brazilian Butt Lift?

Our surgeons have a combined 20+ years of experience specializing in Brazilian Butt Lifts.  Over these years, our surgeons have studied, collaborated, refined, and created a truly unique Brazilian Butt Lift Technique.

The BBL at North Texas Plastic Surgery begins with Vaser ultrasound-assisted liposuction. This liposuction technique involves using ultrasound waves to shake the fat free from the surrounding tissue.  This allows our surgeons to extract MORE FAT than would be possible with traditional liposuction techniques, and to do so with LESS BLEEDING AND BRUISING.  In fact, Vaser has been shown to reduce the blood loss with liposuction by 50%!

Next, our plastic surgeons use a unique power-assisted liposuction system from Brazil called FAGA.  This system causes our liposuction cannulas to rapidly advance forward and backward at 3000-5000 times a minute!  This allows our surgeons to remove MORE FAT efficiently and safely for our patients.

The fat that our surgeons liposuction is then captured in a unique closed system that separates the fat from fluid and blood, concentrating it while never exposing the fat to air.  This closed system is a critical SAFETY maneuver to prevent bacterial contamination of the fat which could cause infection and decrease the amount of fat that survives the fat transfer.

Purification and Reinjection

Finally, the fat that is purified is injected into the buttocks using our FAGA system combined with special large bore injection cannulas with flared tips.  The fast reciprocating movement of the FAGA combined with the large cannula size helps significantly reduce the chances of the fat being injected in the wrong place such as a blood vessel.  Using our special instrumentation and our years of experience, our surgeons can ensure that the fat is being injected SAFELY into the fat compartments of the buttocks and not into the more dangerous muscles or blood vessels.

At the conclusion of your BBL procedure, our plastic surgeons will place you in a specialized compression garment or “faja” as they say in Spanish which we have imported from Colombia just for North Texas Plastic Surgery.

Note that the butt lift procedure is only done to shape and contour the butt. It is purely a cosmetic procedure, which means there are no medical or health problems that can be addressed with a butt lift.

Who Is a Good Candidate for This Procedure?

A good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift is in good overall health, close to his or her ideal body weight, does not smoke, does not vape, and does not use recreational drugs.  It is critical that you communicate with our team your entire medical and surgical history, family history, supplement use, and recreational drug use.  Based on all of these factors and your examination, our team will determine if we can safely perform a BBL for you, or what lifestyle changes you will have to make to be an ideal candidate.

What If I Don’t Have Enough Fat for a BBL? Are Butt Implants an Option?

Some patients struggle with gaining weight and don’t have enough extra fat to transfer to get the volume, shape, or projection that desire with a BBL.  In this case, our plastic surgeons will offer buttocks augmentation with solid silicone implants.

For a buttocks augmentation with implants, our plastic surgeons will place silicone implants intramuscular.  This means that the implants will be placed in the middle of the gluteus maximus muscle so that the edges of the implants are less visible and less able to be felt.  It also helps the implants to move with the buttocks as one unit so that it will be much harder for anyone to tell that the patient has implants.

The scar for a buttocks augmentation with implants is placed in between the two buttocks cheeks to help hide it.  The procedure can often be performed as an outpatient procedure with return to non-physical work as soon as 10 days post-procedure.

Are the Effects of a Brazilian Butt Lift Permanent?

Studies show that between 50-70% of the fat that is transferred with a BBL will take, with the rest typically being reabsorbed by the body.  The fat that takes will be a permanent lifelong part of the body, meaning the results are PERMANENT!

The VASER system that our plastic surgeons use to harvest the fat allows the fat to be removed in smaller, easier-to-take packets.  This combined with our closed system means that our plastic surgeons can deliver BBL results with the HIGHEST POSSIBILITY OF FAT TAKE!

Can I See What Will I Look Like After My Surgery?

Our plastic surgeons will scan your body into our unique Crisalix 3-Dimensional imaging system. This will allow us to give you a very good idea of what you could look like after your procedure.  It will also allow you to participate in the design of your BBL so that we can make sure we are creating the buttocks and shape of your dreams!

Where Will the BBL Procedure be Performed for Patients in Dallas, Plano, and Southlake?

Our plastic surgeons will perform your Brazilian Butt Lift procedure at our fully accredited AAAASF office-based surgical facility in Southlake.  This ensures that not only will your surgeons have years of experience with BBL procedures, but the entire operative team from anesthesia, to nurses to surgical techs to recovery room nurses will all be experienced with the procedure, will understand how to work together as a team, and will know the critical details of the procedure so that you can have the best and safest results possible.

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

Once the BBL is over, the recovery process begins. Depending on how much fat is removed via liposuction you’ll go home on the same day of the procedure, or you will have an overnight stay at our office-based surgical facility. . If a larger amount of fat is removed, or if you combine your butt lift with other procedures, you’re more likely to have an overnight stay.

Once you get home, it is not time to take to the bed.  Instead, it is critical that you are up and walking every hour that you are not sleeping.  In addition, you will be working on pulmonary exercises to help you recover and will be drinking plenty of fluids.  You will be in a compression garment designed to help decrease the swelling after the procedure.  You should expect that you will need help around the house from another adult for a week to ten days after the procedure.

Most patients are able to return to a non-physical job within 10-14 days.  You will be asked, however, to refrain from sitting for the first three weeks after the surgery.  After that point, you will be using a BBL pillow to help take pressure off your new buttocks.

Around week six the transferred fat should be fully grafted and stabilized, so it’s generally okay to resume a normal level of activity, including fat-burning and higher-impact exercise.  At that point, you should really see your figure taking shape.  Final results will be seen roughly six months post-procedure.

What Happens If I Gain or Lose Weight After a Butt Lift?

The fat that is transferred with a BBL is just that, fat.  That means that if you gain weight your buttocks will increase in size, and if you lose weight, your buttocks will decrease in size.  For this reason, our plastic surgeons recommend that you are as close as possible to your goal weight prior to your procedure.

Can I Have a Second BBL?

Studies show that approximately 30% of patients who have a Brazilian Butt Lift desire to have another one at some point in the future.  Our plastic surgeons specialize in revision or secondary BBLs and can definitely augment, reduce or reshape results from a previous surgery.

Can I Have a Tummy Tuck with BBL?

For patients who have had a baby in the past or who have lost significant weight in the past, our plastic surgeons can combine a tummy tuck with a Brazilian Butt Lift so that both the loose skin in the abdomen and the shape of the buttocks can be improved in one surgery.

What About Loose Skin?

Loose skin can be a concern with the areas that have fat removed from liposuction for a BBL.  To help prevent that, our VASER liposuction system helps tighten the skin.  In addition to that, our plastic surgeons offer the most advanced skin tightening technology on the market today, the BodyTite.  The BodyTite allows our surgeons to heat the underside of the skin to 160 degrees F, which has been shown to cause a permanent 35% skin retraction without additional scars!!!

If you are concerned about loose skin after your Brazilian butt lift, please inquire about the possibility of adding BodyTite to your procedure!
