How Does Botox Actually Change the Skin?

By Sacha Obaid

When you think of BOTOX®, you think of the positive effects it can have on the skin, but do you know how it actually works? BOTOX improves the skin’s pliability and elasticity. The effects can last up to four months. Getting injections of this drug in your face make bio-mechanical changes, resulting in more youthful-looking skin. After the effects wear off, your skin will return to the way it was before the treatment.

After BOTOX treatment your skin pliability and elasticity improves, mimicking more youthful skin. Strength, pliability, and elasticity are the three main features of your skin, and as you age, these properties begin to change. You will see signs of your skin losing its elasticity over time. Crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and smile lines will become more prevalent on your face, as those are the areas most affected by time.

BOTOX has similar effects to radiofrequency skin tightening. These treatments are temporary; however, patients who wish for a more permanent solution can try cosmetic surgical procedures such as rhinopoasties (nose jobs), face lifts, or neck lifts to try to reverse the signs of aging.
