5 Tips to Help You Recover from a Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a popular procedure that increases the size and reshapes the buttocks. Unlike other butt augmentation options that often include silicone implants, the BBL uses fat taken from another area of your body (usually the abdomen or “love handle” area) through liposuction and introduces it into the buttocks to provide a plump, lifted contour. Because this plastic surgery uses fat transfer, the recovery period is even more critical to your BBL results.

Your body will reabsorb some of the transferred fat, but you can maximize fat survival by following all post-op recovery instructions and committing to the healing process. These five tips can help you recover from the Brazilian Butt Lift and make sure you achieve the best outcome possible:

1: Use Compression Garments & Appropriate Clothing

After your Brazilian Butt Lift at North Texas Plastic Surgery in Dallas, you’ll be given compression garments to reduce swelling and bruising but also to maintain the new shape and fat cells in the area. Make sure you choose clothing that fits loosely and doesn’t constrict the buttocks. Our board-certified plastic surgeon can answer your questions and provide advice on the right attire during recovery.

2: Don’t Drive or Sit Directly on Your Buttocks

This will no doubt be inconvenient, but driving puts excessive pressure on your buttocks, especially as you move your foot from the brake and gas pedals. Sitting directly on your bottom will also morph your results. You can avoid this by using towels to create a circle to sit on, so the pressure of your weight falls on your thighs and leaves your buttocks unaffected.

3: Feed the New Fat

It takes some time for the fat transferred to your buttocks to settle in, and during this time, you’ll want to make sure you’re eating enough to provide extra blood to the area and support the new fat cells. Consuming healthy fats found in various nuts, avocados, salmon, olive oil, and coconut oil can meet this need for extra calories while you heal.

4: Sleep on Your Stomach or Your Side

Just like driving and sitting on your buttocks, your sleeping position is crucial to the recovery process and Brazilian Butt Lift results. Sleeping on your stomach is ideal because you’re less likely to roll completely onto your back while you’re asleep. Sleeping on your side is also an option but consider using a pillow barrier to prevent rolling onto your back and “squishing” your buttocks.

5: Resume Exercise and a Healthy Lifestyle

Get back into your workout routines once our Dallas plastic surgeon has given you the go-ahead to resume exercising and other activities. There are specific types of cardio and strength training that can help maximize your BBL outcome. Remember to maintain a healthy lifestyle as well which includes drinking plenty of water, staying at a stable weight, and avoiding smoking.
