Labiaplasty is a form of vaginal rejuvenation designed to correct the aesthetic appearance of the labia majora and/or labia minora. Approximately 10,000 labiaplasties are performed each year in the United States.
This surgery is primarily cosmetic in nature, as it is simply designed to modify the aesthetic appearance of the genitals. This surgery will not improve the functionality of the genitalia, nor it is it meant to increase the frequency or intensity of your sexual arousal. However, it can prevent the labia from being pushed inward during intercourse.
There are two primary techniques we can utilize: the edge method and the wedge method. Our labiaplasty surgeons in Plano are trained in both methods and will discuss your options in the initial consultation.
Labiaplasty is an option for any adult patient in good physical health and who wishes to correct the appearance or placement of her labia minora and labia majora. Issues with this part of the body may arise due to:
If you find that physical activity, such as walking, exercising, or sex, is causing the area to pinch or chafe, you might benefit from a labiaplasty. This surgery should only be for adult women who have finished puberty and development, and who are non-smokers or willing to temporarily quit smoking at the direction of our medical professionals.
In the week leading up to the surgery, make sure you eat and sleep well, and stop using certain medications at the direction of our plastic surgeon. We do not want anything to interfere with the anesthesia or the recovery process.
On the day of your surgery (and during your healing period), you must wear your loosest and softest undergarments for your own comfort and to facilitate the healing of the incisions.
During your consultation, your surgeon may also discuss whether you want to get the “edge” or “wedge” technique. Similar to a haircut, the edge resection method essentially trims the excess tissues of the labia (this is also sometimes known as the “trim” method). The wedge resection method is more substantial and involves cutting wedge-shaped slivers of skin from the center of the labia minora. The skin is then brought together over the gap and stitched closed. In this method, the original edges of the labia are maintained.

Once completed, you should expect your results to be permanent! If you have any additional questions about the surgical or recovery process, please bring them up with our plastic surgeons during your initial consultation.
