Everyone knows that no matter how much you diet and exercise, there are always stubborn, localized pockets of fat that will not go away. Your reason for choosing liposuction may be as simple as just wanting to look better in your clothes. While liposuction is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle, it can make you look and feel better.
At North Texas Plastic Surgery, we offer laser-assisted liposuction to address localized pockets of fat around the body. Our two Harvard-trained, board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Sacha Obaid and Dr. Jon Ver Halen understand how frustrating it can be to eliminate that unwanted fat and use their knowledge and expertise to help you feel great and achieve your cosmetic goals.

What is Laser-Assisted Liposuction?
Laser-Assisted Liposuction (AKA, SmartLipo, or laser lipolysis) uses a laser to rapidly dissolve fat and tighten the surrounding skin almost anywhere in the body. Now FDA-approved, this revolutionary and minimally-invasive procedure offers less bleeding, swelling, bruising, and a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction. Under local or general anesthesia, the procedure is performed with a small laser fiber that dissolves the fat and tightens the surrounding skin.
Laser liposuction provides many advantages, including:
- Skin tightening
- Quicker recovery time
- Decreased bleeding and bruising
- Minimal discomfort
Laser-Assisted Liposuction Versus Traditional Liposuction
Laser liposuction adds a ‘skin tightening’ element to the liposuction procedure by stimulating the body’s production of collagen and also by breaking up dimples. It’s often combined with traditional liposuction. Compared to traditional liposuction laser liposuction causes less bleeding, bruising, and swelling, which results in a faster recovery for you.
Laser liposuction uses smaller instruments than traditional liposuction, and is a more efficient method of tightening lax skin from small areas of the body, such as the:
Laser liposuction can take 15 minutes on the neck, versus several hours on larger areas. Most patients have only one treatment. However, a touch-up treatment may be required in some patients.
Laser-Assisted Liposuction Recovery
Patients who have laser liposuction are back to work in only a few days. You will go home after the procedure and rest for a few hours, after which you will gradually increase your activity. A pressure garment may be placed over the treated area for several days to several weeks, depending on the body areas treated. Refrain from strenuous activity for at least several weeks.
Shortly after the procedure, the treated area will appear tighter, compact, and smaller. The skin tightening is a gradual, continuous process and your best results are seen after several months.
Cosmetically speaking, successful treatment is measured in inches rather than pounds. The weight removed is not as important as the improvement in your body’s contour. Most important is your improved self-image and self-acceptance. The fat removal is permanent. Should you gain weight, the fat will preferentially return to areas that were not treated with the laser. For best results, patients should maintain a healthy diet and exercise program.
