The most basic form of liposuction is tumescent liposuction. This involves injecting the area to be suctioned with a fluid that contains a medication to minimize bruising and bleeding, along with a local anesthetic for pain.
At North Texas Plastic Surgery, we offer more advanced liposuction techniques, including power-assisted liposuction. We perform this using our MicroAire and FAGA machines. With power-assisted liposuction, the actual tip of the liposuction cannula is rapidly moving back-and-forth on top of the movement created by the surgeon’s hands. This is critical because it allows for a more uniform extraction of the fat, which is less likely to cause contour regularities. In addition, it requires less mechanical work from the surgeon which in turn will allow the surgeon to perform a more thorough liposuction, leading to an even slimmer result for you!
We also offer VASER lipo, which uses sound waves to mechanically shake the fat free from the surrounding tissues. This allows us to remove more fat than we would otherwise be able to remove, leading to a more contoured result. It also allows us to do so while decreasing the bleeding and bruising by about 50%. This in turn allows us to liposuction more fat than we would otherwise be able to without it. Finally, it also leads to a more uniform extraction of fat which minimizes the risk of contour regularities.
