Jonathan Dang, M.D. Aesthetic Surgery Fellow

North Texas Plastic Surgery is excited to present our fellow surgeon chosen for the 2023/2024 Fellowship Program. Dr. Jonathan Dang was hand-selected by Dr. Sacha Obaid, and your care and surgery will be provided by Dr. Jonathan Dang under the supervision of Dr. Obaid.

Dr. Obaid interviewed many candidates looking for the right surgeons to join our practice for this highly coveted Fellowship Program at North Texas Plastic Surgery. He recognized the special attributes and leadership skills of Dr. Dang, which are compatible with the high standards of Dr. Obaid and North Texas Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Dang is a native Texan who grew up in the suburbs of Austin. He attended The University of Texas at Austin for his undergraduate training where he received a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, graduating with Departmental Honors. He then obtained his medical degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine where he spent his clinical years in Dallas at Baylor University Medical Center. His initial interests were in the field of minimally invasive surgery utilizing robotic technology in the treatment of hernias, esophageal and colon cancers. Because of this, he went on to complete a general surgery residency at New York Presbyterian, an affiliate of the Weill Cornell Medical College. It was during his time as a general surgery resident, however, that he had an opportunity to work at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York under the tutelage of world-renowned leaders in plastic surgery. This unique experience of treating cancer patients with advanced techniques in reconstruction garnered his interests in the field of plastic surgery.

At the completion of his general surgery residency, he went on to complete a highly competitive, three-year fellowship in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at The University of Florida. Here he received extensive training in the fields of aesthetic surgery, microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, and hand/facial trauma. He ultimately found his passion in aesthetic surgery after performing rhinoplasties, facelifts, and breast/body contouring procedures under the mentorship of Dr. Bruce Mast, a leader in the field of academic plastic surgery. During his chief residency year, he spent time in Beverly Hills, CA learning advanced techniques in ethnic facial plastic surgery under the guidance of Dr. Charles Lee, a world-renowned leader in this field. Dr. Dang was also fortunate to have been invited on a medical mission trip to Honduras to actively participate in cleft palate and lip surgeries for the underserved pediatric population.

He is also academically involved, having authored various research projects in the field of plastic & reconstructive surgery including management of lumbosacral plexus injuries, breast reduction techniques and reverse butt augmentation trends. He is currently working on a quality improvement initiative for improving patient satisfaction after body contouring surgery. He is an active reviewer for the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the premier scholastic journal in the field of aesthetic surgery. In addition, he loves to teach and was awarded the Fellow Teacher of the Year while at The University of Florida in 2021. Dr. Dang is a fully-trained, board-eligible plastic & reconstructive surgeon and is also board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Outside of surgery, Dr. Dang loves spending time with his wife and their one-year-old son. He also enjoys caricature drawing, cooking, and hiking with his family.
