Every day, you can lose up to about 100 hairs, but over time that can lead to bald patches or noticeable thinning. Hair thinning can come from a variety of causes, like major hormonal shifts, stress, genetics, certain diseases, and some medications.
North Texas Plastic Surgery is proud to offer two different, highly effective, treatment options for thinning hair in Dallas and Southlake—platelet-rich plasma and ARTAS iX robotic hair restoration. Our elite Med Spa team will discuss these options and how they can help with your hair loss situation.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) can help boost hair follicle functioning. Just because there is no hair there right now, or the hair is very thin, does not mean hair follicles are not present. Hair follicles can become dormant for a variety of reasons and the blood cells and growth factors in PRP can stimulate hair follicles back into action. PRP works mostly by increasing blood flow and providing growth factors to the hair follicles.
A PRP treatment uses your own blood to create a plasma rich in blood cells and proteins. This is prepared in our own facility after your blood is drawn. The enriched plasma is then carefully injected into the thinning area. A session usually only requires about 45 minutes so you can pop into our office for about one hour, then return to your usual activities.
Hair restoration takes time, which means you will wait about three months before seeing results from the PRP injections. It is not unusual for patients to set up appointments for more PRP treatments about every four to six months. These sessions can be used to treat new areas or reinforce areas where the PRP effect may be waning.
ARTAS iX is the latest in hair restoration technology and a great choice for Dallas and Southlake patients who are concerned about hair thinning. This FDA-cleared instrumentation and process uses robotics and artificial intelligence to make traditional follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation easier and more reliable. Robotics provides precision and artificial intelligence provides the control needed to give you the best hair loss restoration.
Traditional FUE hair transplantation requires an experienced surgeon to get the optimum results. It chooses the best follicles to use and extracts a follicular unit intact to be transplanted into an area in need.
The ARTAS iX Robotic Hair Restoration system uses robotics to properly harvest the hair follicles and place them at the right angle so that transplanted hairs will combine with already present hairs naturally. The system uses artificial intelligence algorithms to identify the best hair follicles available from a one-centimeter square donor area. Chosen follicles are extracted without damaging surrounding follicles, then transplanted with the same exact care into a recipient area.
The system tracks which follicles have been removed and which follicles can be used in the future. As the transplant follicles are being positioned, the robotic arm and stereoscopic vision system will ensure that the follicles are placed in the proper position in the recipient area. This, too, is recorded for future reference. Proper placement makes your new hair blend in naturally as it grows.
Hairs that are currently in the transplanted follicles at the time of transplant will be lost about five days after the transplant procedure. This does not mean that the follicles have died. They are going through transitions as they secure a new blood supply and become properly incorporated into your scalp. You will see new hair in about four to six months and the transplanted follicles should live forever.
Many hair thinning patients are impressed by the minimal pain they experience during the procedure in our Southlake office. There is almost no scarring and no bald areas left in donor areas. Most patients only take a day or two off from work.
Thinning hair, no matter what the cause, can make you look older and even embarrassed. Call North Texas Plastic Surgery to schedule a consultation for a potential fix using one of these exciting techniques. One of our team members in Southlake will gladly discuss how hair restoration procedures can help fill in thin areas and get you on track to a better-looking head of hair.
